Working Together for Charleston's Students

For many children experiencing homelessness, school provides much more than an education. It offers consistency, encouragement, supportive relationships, and access to resources that help families navigate incredibly difficult circumstances.

The McKinney-Vento Program ensures that children and youth experiencing homelessness have the opportunity to remain connected to school by helping remove barriers to enrollment, attendance, transportation, and educational success.

Each year, Charleston County School District brings together nonprofit organizations, service providers, and community partners through its Serving the Unhoused event to connect families with resources that can make a meaningful difference.

Star Gospel Mission is honored to once again participate in this year's 4th Annual Serving the Unhoused event alongside organizations from across the Lowcountry. We'll be available to share information about our community outreach efforts, including GraceWorks, as well as the programs and support available through Star Gospel Mission.

This year is especially meaningful because, for the first time, we'll also have the opportunity to introduce families to our Morning Light Program for Women and Children. As our transitional housing program continues to grow, we're excited to connect with women and families who may benefit from safe housing, supportive services, and a pathway toward lasting stability.

No single organization can meet every need. But when schools, nonprofits, churches, healthcare providers, and community partners work together, families are more likely to find the support they need to move forward.

We're grateful to Charleston County School District and the McKinney-Vento Program for bringing our community together once again to ensure every child and every family knows they are seen, supported, and never walking their journey alone.
