A Legacy Woven Into the Mission

After years of faithful service at Star Gospel Mission, Jim Grady, Operations Manager, is beginning a new chapter as he retires from the Mission.

Jim has been part of Star Gospel Mission through seasons of growth, change, and transformation. While his role as Operations Manager has involved the many practical details that keep a ministry like this running, his contribution has always been about more than the work itself.

For years, Jim has been a familiar and steady presence at the Mission. He has shown up, worked hard, helped where he was needed, and cared about the people around him. In the everyday moments of serving, solving problems, and helping keep things moving, Jim became part of the fabric of the Mission.

At Jim’s retirement celebration, Executive Director, Rev. Dr. Marion Platt, presented him with a plaque recognizing his years of service and the lasting impact he has had on Star Gospel Mission.

“With deepest gratitude for your faithful service and enduring legacy. For seasons of growth and transformation, your leadership, hard work, and unwavering commitment have helped build the Star Gospel Mission into a place of dignity, hope, and new beginnings.”

The plaque continued:

“Your faithfulness is woven into the foundation of all that stands today and all that is yet to come.”

It is a fitting description of a legacy that was built over time.

Jim’s impact can be seen not only in the work he has done, but in the people he has encountered along the way. His years at the Mission have been part of the larger story of creating a place where people are welcomed, cared for, and given the opportunity to move toward something new.

Former Mission Guest Bill E., shared a message that captures that impact in a deeply personal way:

“I am permanently grateful for you opening the Mission door years ago and letting me in. It remains vital to me.”

Those words are a powerful reminder that the work of the Mission is ultimately about people.

A door can be more than a door. Sometimes, it is an invitation to begin again.

And sometimes, the people who help keep that door open become part of someone’s story in ways they may never fully realize.

Jim has been one of those people.

Through his years of service, he has helped build and care for the place that so many people have called home, found support, and taken their next step forward. His faithfulness has become part of the foundation of Star Gospel Mission and will continue to be part of its story in the years ahead.

As Jim retires, the Mission community is grateful for all he has given: his time, his hard work, his steady presence, and the care he has shown to the people around him.

We are grateful for the years Jim has spent at Star Gospel Mission and for the part he has played in helping make the Mission what it is today.
